Chucking stuff

Great Thread.

My dad is a hoarder. I grew up with a house full of clutter and shit stacked up all over the place.

Now I'm the total opposite. Hate clutter. Get anxiety when I go back to visit old house. I basically still just have the stuff that I drove to NYC with from CA. That's why it has been so easy for me to move, to roughly 7 different apartments within past few years.

Funny thing is, despite me starting a thread of this nature, I am far from a hoarder. My place is VERY clutter-free. At least it is out in the open. It's downright spartan compared to most. Basically the only thing that could be described as an adornment would be all my books (which will soon be gone).

But when stuff gets put in a closet, that's when the trouble starts.

RayRay brought up clothes. That will be another significant part of this initiative. I'm sure most of what is in my closet will end up chucked.

Wouldn't be surprised if I get rid of 20 garbage bags worth of stuff before I'm done.

What does this mean matty?

If I may be allowed to weigh in on this: a packrat is a rodent known for collecting stuff and keeping everything it finds. It uses some stuff to build its nest - but it also just collects and hoards stuff - from sticks and twigs to bottle caps and bits of wiring to any kind of garbage lying around. It just grabs stuff - often things of no possible use or value - and never discards anything.

To call a human a packrat - well I guess that is self-explanatory.

yeah its hard for me to throw things away that are not actual half eaten food stuffs or wrapping for food stuffs.

my wife is good at getting me to purge now, but it always comes with a fight and anxiety by me.

she has also been very good at storing things that we should most likely just chuck or give away.

I am certain I have plenty to get rid of that has built up over the past few years living here, and I am sure once we move, I will be getting rid of A LOT. Steve got rid of a good bit in Clymer, but still has boxes of stuff that never got unpacked or used this past year.

The purge continues. Many cassette tapes. There were a bunch of commercial tapes lined up on my entertainment unit. Some of them were damn good music but I haven't listened to them in probably a decade so ---> chucked.

Then I had a couple boxes of my own songwriting demos that I made in the 90's. Seems like I should hold onto them. It is stuff I created and a lot of it was published. Maybe I will want to refer to them someday or just impress a girl??

No. Not touched in a decade ----> chucked.
