Or did I mess up? What is a "Spread (Inc. Tie)" bet? Does it not work like any ol' handicap? @roguejuror wake up

spread including tie

Weird format. There's no reason why all three continental European tournaments need to have the exact same format. There should be at least one big knock out tournament. That's what made the Champions League and UEFA Cup interesting was because they had different formats and were unique from one another.

There still is knockout rounds. Hasn't changed that way. Same now with knockouts except now going from 36 teams to 24 while previously 32 teams to 16. All equal setups for competitions just 3 different levels of clubs quality.

For me getting to final 16 you have .....
1) 2 additional matches to prove teams worth
2) top 8 getting byes incentive to win all 8 matches
3) 8 different foes better equal level playing ground determination of best teams moving forward instead of previously only playing same 3 teams twice in the 8 initial groups

The new format, with all the teams ranked together in a single league, will mean that there is more to play for all the way through to the final night of the league phase.

In the knockout phase, the teams that finish between 9th and 16th will be seeded in the knockout phase play-off draw, meaning they will face a team placed 17th to 24th – with, in principle, the return leg at home. The eight clubs which prevail in the knockout phase play-offs will then progress to the round of 16, where they will each face one of the top-eight finishers, who will be seeded in the round of 16.

How will the new Champions League format benefit fans?

  • The new league format will involve more European teams in each competition and will allow fans to not only see more top European matches but also to see those matches take place earlier in the competition.
  • The new format will introduce a better competitive balance between all the teams, with the possibility for each team to play opponents of a similar competitive level throughout the league phase.
  • Every game counts. The new league format will ensure that any result has the potential to dramatically change a team's position, right up to and including the very last matchday. Winning or losing the last game of the league phase could make the difference between a side qualifying automatically for the last 16, entering the play-offs or being eliminated from the competition altogether.

Fiver, nice to see you back after 18+ months MIA! Hope all is well with you!

Love the new setup for at least Champions League. Only one I concentrate my interest upon. Lower level competition for me is like the NIT in NCAA basketball. Though if I was fan of would be interested in seeing my club. I guess if others had different setups wouldn't bother me.

that's an old european style spread bet, it's a "spread" that takes account of a possible draw, what you bet was the equivalent of a +0.5 spread, if chelsea wins by one goal you would push, if chelsea wins by two goals you lose
