was watching more stuff on Ali. Pretty amazing fella:clapper:

I mean I always new about his resisting the draft and all that stuff. But I guess I never thought about him being so sincere and good willed. Extremely courageous and bold on many levels in boxing and out. Who was the last athlete to matter at all outside of their sport? :dunno:

It's interesting, the pop culture shit that's huge industry now such as sport/music was actually given significance through political commentary. But now it has no commentary.

Yeah it was good to be reminded a bit about Howe because, though I certainly saw him play, he was always that really old guy who was still playing. A bit of a novelty act.

Like he was always really good for an old guy - smart player - and of course he had that all-time scoring record - although that was partly about him playing to such an age - but still, you couldn't knock that.

But, though I actually saw him for quite a few years, he was honestly never a total WOW player.

Well he started playing 20+ years before I attained awareness and here is some reality I was reminded of today: 6 Hart Trophies.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6 scoring titles. 4 Cups. He ranked in the top 10 in scoring for 21 consecutive years.

23 time all-star.

And the all-time scoring leader until Wayne Gretzky came along. Even with the high scoring era of the 80's, Messier was the only other guy to pass him - until just recently with Jagr.

So yeah, Howe was good.

They talk about the Gordie Howe hat trick: a goal, an assist and a fight in the same game.

Gordie actually only did it twice in his career.

Career leader is Rich Tocchet with 18, followed by Brendan Shanahan and Brian Sutter with 17.

Active leader is Jarome Iginla.

Damn. Anton Yelchin died. Young guy - 27 - fucked up news.

I've seen him in a few things. Seems like last year he was the young teen son in Huff. However that was actually 2004 so, time flies.

Maybe best known for playing Chekhov in the new Star Trek movies?

Weird circumstances.

He died on Sunday morning in Los Angeles when he was pinned by his car in his driveway. He was 27.

Officer Jenny Houser of the Los Angeles Police Department said that Mr. Yelchin died after being hit at around 1:10 a.m. at his home in the neighborhood Studio City. The car had rolled backward down the steep driveway and trapped him against a brick mailbox pillar and a security fence. Officer Houser said that he was found dead by friends who came to his house after he did not arrive at a scheduled rehearsal.

Ugh.

Jerry Doyle died. He looks so familiar I thought I must have seen him in a bunch of things but it turns out no. Just Babylon 5.

Mind you that was over 100 episodes.

That was some respectable sci-fi: Babylon 5.

He's got a bit of a Bruce Willis vibe to him too so maybe that was tricking my brain but anyway, RIP Garibaldi.
