My shop neighbor was talking to me about his childhood in Vancouver Island and Westmount (both posh locations) the other day. That prompted an obvious question:

Not recently, no? But maybe in the sense that I should've bought property instead of a shiny engagement ring back in 2013. We'd be living in an Owen Sound mansion today.

Remind me how yall end up in Owen Sound? Yall went to vacation cause some family members were there and something happened to your apartment, and started looking for a place to rent right away?

JL had summer camp here and wifey was staying at her parents. I was still working in TO and went on a motorcycle trip that weekend - that's when I came back to wavy flooring and suddenly felt disgusted with our whole living situation. Tiny-condo-living was pretty bad after several months of lockdown. We were basically all in the same room all the time.

Lots more space here, makes a big difference. And I like my "commute" to work which is literally just around the corner.

OS is not bad at all in general, we just moved in the exact worst spot of it as far as mental health/drug problems go. The more residential area where wifey's sister lives is a perfectly normal lower middle class area with cute little brick houses.

We thought about buying something but I still don't think home ownership is for us, and condos aren't really a thing here.

I dunno. I guess I'll need to put on my big boy pants at some point and embrace the lawnmowing, basement-flooding, eavestrough-cleaning lifestyle. Blech.

I'm just wary of becoming one of those people who get stuck in an endless cycle of home renos. Homeowning as a lifestyle. 🤢

At your age you don’t just magically start liking spending most of the weekend fixing things up around the house and doing landscaping.

You’re a creative/artsy type like me. We suck at being handy and getting horny about mowing the lawn.

My brother loves all that fixer upper stuff. He doesn’t have a creative bone in his body.

That's interesting man. It may be where my hairstyle originated. I did go to high school with a lot of Mexicans, and I might have, at least subconsciously, based it on what the cooler people looked like.
