So, I broke a tooth and need a crown for an upper back tooth. Despite paying $610 for health insurance, I have no dental plan (which reminds me I need to look at that exchange stuff you guys were talking about.)

Seems like even when I had dental insurance I paid some crazy amount for a crown.

I guess my question is do I break down and spend the money? ...I'm guessing $1200-1500. Can I find some independent dental plan on line and wait it out til coverage is effective? Not sure if there are any good dental plans even out there that are not group policies.

It doesn't bother me most of the time, but I know it's not going to get better and right now is causing some pain. I've always had good teeth, albeit quite a few fillings, but maybe this doesn't bother me since it's in the back and not visible. Hell, maybe I should just have it pulled although I am not sure I would like that.

My nephew is top of his class in dental school, but doesn't graduate for another two years. If anyone knows of a good dental plan I can sign up for online that doesn't have some sort of waiting period please let me know.

That's one way to go, I had a couple molars pulled. not by choice, but I did. It sucked butt.
That's what this is. I imagine it's uncomfortable at first (eating etc) but I have heard people say that after a while they don't notice it. Is that true? BTW, did you see I got finally figured out the WWF on my phone? I love my opening word.

Oh I haven't looked yet, I don't get on fb til after work and I have SLAMMED today. which is good, I like it busy, I wish I was this busy every day.

No after a pulled tooth heals it doesn't bother you at all. I find myself playing with the space where there used to be a tooth, like all the time. I had two pulled, one on the bottom, and one on the top, right above the other, so I have quite the hole. I have a cap on a molar on the other side, and recently particles of food have been getting stuck between the cap, and my gum, and it hurts like a mothereffer. thank gosh for floss.

if its a back molar and isnt hurting, fuck it... if it starts to hurt, then go have something done:yes:

It hurts just enough to be miserable, but not enough to cause me to feel like I need to get in immediately I guess or I would have gone. Hey maybe if I wait it out til it is about to kill me from an infection I can go to the ER and it will be covered by my health insurance.

Thanks everyone for your input. Except Bacon. Who appears to be laughing at me in post 19. Rude. ;)

ugh...if its already got pain , then you got nerve damage and unless you fight through the pain, it needs to be dealt with... been there with a few broken wisdom teeth :sbrjohn:

Really? Well fok. I was thinking it hurt as soon as it happened but maybe it was just awkward/uncomfortable. Sigh. Always something.

you can give it a day to see if the pain is just around the tooth...as if the tooth moved when it broke....but if it keeps you awake and just aches, its nerves... and it can take a while for that pain to go away... i must have asked my dentist clients a million questions about thiswhen i broke those wisdom teeth
