Six Feet Under.......soooo good. Rome was more of a miniseries, so it probably isn't fair to lump it in with everything else.

And yes, Julia Stiles needs to be punched right in her big, fat head. Please, someone kill her soon.

note to self... self, when you have a question concerning a tv show to watch, completely ignore any answer maxx gives. just different tastes pal, dont call me the dumbest fucker you know and threaten to kill me now. thanks

yeah, i guess dexter is going to end up banging her and she will become his understudy...not sure how i feel about it yet... bored to death is good this year and boardwalk is getting there...could never get into six feet under, maybe when i get bored ill try it again... Seinfeld and CYE have their moments, but i found them both to be more annoying than anything else.

ill tell ya what kinda sucks this season that has been good up till now... Weeds.

Yes, Julia Stiles is killing Dexter. I think that show might have already run its course with or without her though. Maybe they should have just ended it with the baby in blood on the bathroom floor. I knew coming out of that there were just too many loose ends to tie up, what with her kids and Dexter's new kid. Sending them off to the grandparents was too convenient. Now this new supernanny who works all hours of the night...too convenient. His sister hooking up with her partner who is investigating Dexter.... too obvious. I used to love the show but now it's just not working for me. I get home Sunday nights and watch Boardwalk which is an incredibly authentic period piece about subjects I love - gambling, booze, mafia. Then afterwards I'm like now I guess I'll watch this ridiculous shit they're trying to feed me on Dexter.

Oh and Weeds....totally agree. Another show that has shit the bed this season. It's not funny, it's not interesting, it's not believable. It's become total garbage and I really used to love the show.

I still can't figure out what's not to love about seeing the birth and rise of American mafia in Chicago, New York and NJ. This is real history (for the most part) being acted out on your TV every Sunday night. Maybe you have to be somewhat of a history buff to really dig it.

You think it's historically accurate? C'mon, Jello.

Arthur Mitchell saved it all.....he was so good. This season blows though.

They take a lot of liberties, but it's based on real people and there are some very accurate portrayals. Not the most of which is this scene, but it was still a great scene

I don't know much about the history of the American mafia. I am in awe with the attention to detail regarding costuming and sets for the time period (same thing with Rome). And what a bizarre time period it was. Prohibition, female voters, Incubator Baby stores on the Boardwalk?

I didn't think I'd like him at first but that was a pretty intense season.

Nucky Thompson is based on Nucky Johnson, who was boss of the political machine that ran AC and NJ during the 20's. I don't think he had a brother who held any sort of important position, but he inhereted power from his father who was sheriff for many years. Wlater Edge and Frank Hague are real historical figures as well. Edge was state senator and eventually governor of NJ.

Obviously Capone is real. He was really Johnny Torrio's protoge in the Chicago Outfit, as portrayed in the show. Sheridan is based on Dion o'banion, leader of the Irish North Side gang. Torrio and Obanion's feud eventually escalated to the point that Torrio had O'banion killed under similar pretenses as depicted in the show.

Charles "Lucky" Luciano is of course real. He is recognized as the father of modern organized crime. He was the first boss of the Genovese family. Luciano's right hand man was a Jew by the name of Meyer Lansky (also depicted). Lansky was known as the Mob's accountant. As previously noted, he was the inspiration for the Hyman Roth character in the Godfather series. Before his ascendency, Luciano worked for none other than Arnold Rothstein (depicted), who was known as the greatest gambler in the world. He's the guy who fixed the 1919 World Series (Blacksox scandal...Eight Men Out). He's the inspiration for the character Mayer Wolfsheim in The Great Gatsby. His one time marathon pool/gambling session was the inspiration for the opening scene of The Hustler.

Jimmy Darmody is a completely fictionalized character as far as I can tell. But there are other historical figures being brought into play as the series evolves. This week it's Warren Harding and Nan Britton. Nan Britton was sort of the original Monica Lewinsky. She wrote a book after Harding's death in office (which was prophisized by his wife on the show and she really did supposedly frequent soothe sayers and one of them had reportedly told her he would die in office). The book was called The President's Daughter and was the first kiss and tell book of it's time.

So yeah, this might not all be historically precise, but it is chock full of accurate portrayals of historically significant figures.

Did you already know that info or did you look it up after you became hooked on the show?

Buscemi playing Nucky was definitely an upgrade in looks after seeing what the original guy looked like.

p.s. Did Buscemi get his snaggle tooth fixed?
