He is special, no question. He actually had a down year this season, and am glad to see the rejuvenation in his game last night.

I think it will be good for his long term development. Last season he was a norris candidate, gold medalist, on-top-of-the-world at under 21 years old... and I think it got to his head a little. He came into camp a bit overweight, and his decision-making and execution have been a noticeable step behind this season.

That said, Doughty at his worst is still a dangerous 1st-pairing defenseman. I just think this season was a bit of a wake-up call, that there is no cruising in the NHL and the hard work he put in in his first two seasons will need to be put in every year. And with that lesson learned, there is certainly a Norris (or 5) in his future.
