You have to get the money in and out somehow...

That's how they stop it.
A pattern has to occur in order for that to happen (from a law perspective).

Smart people don't create patterns.

Btw thanlyou for being the 1st person who actually provided solid reasoning as to why the bubble was what it was.

If I could give you points I would.

Saulty, ur referring to Satoshi's, btc's micro currency

They didn't have Satoshi at my Japanese restaurant last time I ate there. What is Satoshi?

Ok, the longterm goal of btc from the beginning was for coins to become worth so much that they could then be divided ito Satoshi (named after the founder of bitcoin, Sotoshi Nakamoto).

Each Satoshi worth being worth 0.00000001 of a bitcoin as pointed out earlier in thread.

It was from Satoshi's that societies would 'potentially' operate from in a global marketplace.

It just has to become mainstream enough and the government will want its cut.

It's currently getting publicity and there are already hints of government intervention as they've been looking into Silk Road.

I hope government does try to work in with this instead of displaying usual resistance.

I don't see it happening though as one would think of unified approach (like a UN Style global government movement) from government(s) around the world would be required to tackle this in a meaningful way.

Even though, say they do magically somehow manage to take down btc what then of the hundreds of copycats popping up, offering the same functionality as btc did?

Copycats don't matter. They'd have sweeping legislation outlawing processors from processing crypto-currency transactions.

No different than what they've done to sports betting.

If you can't get money in and out of it, it's worthless.
Ok but on that premise they would be unable to put that into actual law until they knew of a way to monitor cryptic anonymous currency, which they've admitted that when done properly they are unable to do, at least in my country.

We could be waiting a while. Not a single commercial tv network here has advertised anything relating to bitcoin lol

They already do it here for sports betting. Banking institutions, WU, MG, etc. are not allowed to process offshore gambling transactions.

It can be done.

Why do you think there are so many processor issues with offshore books? And why the number of U.S.-facing books continues to decrease?
