Sonic Youth playing Teenage Riot during an all-ages show at the Metropolis in 2000. Huge mosh pit filled with kids who were toddlers when the song was recorded, possibly not even born when it was written. Beautiful chaos.

Helluva question. Quite a few candidates.

I'm gonna say David Wilcox at Spanky's in Brampton. I saw him a bunch of times there, probably 1980-85. Man I had fun at those shows. It was just a small bar so there was no big theatrical thing that made it so great. It was all about the music and he was a fun performer who was just right at that place and time.

I was amazed by Radiohead at Grant Park in 2001...couldn't believe how well they pulled of the electronica live and they played forever...3 encores, over 2 hours, it was about 99 degrees that day and I managed to get about 50 feet form the stage. I think the crowd was something like 25,000.

Violent Femmes in 1993 were a blast, probably a close second

I almost went to that Radiohead show. Can't remember why I didn't though...

I'm not nearly as in to music as most of you but,

small venue:

Cake: Vegas House of Blues around the time of Pressure Chief. Best live sound quality I've ever heard and a great great show.

large venue:

REM: University of Illinois Assembly Hall. Green Album Tour. Impressive production. They don't tour much, I'm glad I got to see them.

honorable mentions:

Aimee Mann at the Paris Pool. Lou Barlow at the Magic Stick in Detroit. The High Strung at the Double Down in Vegas.

jealous of:

CB for the Violent Femmes.
MFer for Pink Floyd.

I think that was probably their peak, as I haven't card for much they have done since. Hearing them do Paranoid Android live was unreal. Also they were choosy about what they did off of Kid A and they played pretty much every song off of OK Computer, plus a bunch of stuff I hadn't heard at the time but found out later were b-sides...stuff off of soundtracks, etc. Yorke ended the show by himself preforming True Love Waits.

You missed a good show MF. Maybe you got some tail or something instead.

I saw Cake at Red Rocks in 2000 but I was actually there to see The Flaming Lips. Personally, I thought they were great, but De La Soul stole that show for me.

The Femmes killed every song. They never stopped and the crowd was electric, hanging on every word.

Kato, this was tough. I was sitting around wondering about all of the concerts I have seen through the years, and it took forever to say which one was the "best"
