I agree with what you are saying about keeping at least two original 6 teams in the West. But I think time zones play a big part as well.

Detroit and Florida are in the same time zone too and is a long flight.

Columbus is in the eastern time zone too. The flights in the south for Nashville are similar to their present situation. A division of Det, Chi, Columbus, St Louis, and Minn is pretty realistic. If you want to pair up Minn with Winnipeg, put Dallas in chi's division and take Minn out.

Detroit has petitioned the league for years to jump to the east. The western conference needs Detroit far more than Toronto does.

The NHL really needs to contract teams. Florida, Phoenix, and Columbus should all be gone.

Young players playing in the AHL for 1 year would be great, I go to more and more AHL games each year, you cant beat the price. I guess that would change because you could market players like Hall and Seguin playing.

I went to a Portland Pirates game this past winter for $5.

Plenty of good AHL hockey with a couple hours of Boston.

Also college hockey's talent level as picked up, not as good a major junior, but it has come a long way over the past 15 years.

College hockey needs to go with half visors like Major Jr. They need to man up a little. The majority of college kids drafted in teh NHL never make it. I once read that 97% of the undrafted kids who are signed by an NHL team also never make it. I think BB needs to change his game plan and stop relying on the Hansons of the world.
