Dave I'm actually a very nice guy. That's a pretty shitty thing that they did to you. I was under the impression that you were fired due to you starting the All Pac 10 website and I thought SBR had asked you to stop writing on another sports website. At least I'm pretty sure SBR John or Dozer or someone referenced that in a post, I think. Good luck finding a job, it's tough. I've been bouncing around taking pretty much whatever I can get. I've had like 3 temp jobs in the past 9 months.

I don't believe that was the case. I think there was some haziness in the language... I read at one point that they said I was "more interested in other ventures", but I don't think they were referring to AP10, I think they were referring to the fact that I turned down their writing gig. They fired me unceremoniously and then said "oh, by the way, we do want to keep you as a writer", and the idea of working for them after the way I was treated didn't vibe with me. That was probably so hard for them to compute that I would dare turn down the job that they ran with the arbitrary "he wanted to work on other things".

A few points worth noting. One, why didn't they start talking about my firing until months after I was gone? Almost like they were trying to get their story straight.

Two, lets say it did have something to do with AP10. First of all, as Bill was firing me as I was walking to my car that day, he didn't mention it despite the fact that we talked for about 15 minutes as I was pointing out how silly it was that I was being fired. If that were a contributing factor, there was no reason he wouldn't have mentioned it. Secondly, I never signed anything and was never asked not to work on personal projects. Obviously I was told not to post at EOG or Rx, but there was never any dialogue that I couldn't work on other things. If that were a factor (which I clearly think it wasn't), they would have just asked me to stop or slap an SBR logo on it I imagine. If they would have asked me to stop, I'd have obliged.

Well, looking past the firing, if you were to not get fired you would have been asked to move to Costa Rica or no longer continue working for them (that's what I'm guessing). Would you have moved to CR?

Hard to look at it subjectively now, but it's a really great question that I've asked myself. I liked San Antonio quite a bit, and really liked my apartment and everything. Another big move, this time out of the country, would have been a really tough call.

I've gone back and forth on it. I probably wouldn't have, just because I wasn't super happy there and I felt like my days were numbered anyway from the way I was treated at the office. That said, they would have likely offered me similar to what they offered me when I was fired (a writing gig), which I would have probably taken and I'd still be writing and posting over there.
