Thanks Boner. 90% of it already went to debt reduction. 1/30th went to this:

Had Gentlemans Jack for the first time tonight.

Just a click below JD Single Barrel. VERY serviceable. 4 clicks above regular Jack. As all the Jacks, it's very different than Makers.
The high end Jacks are Scarlett J. Makers is Mila Kunis.

This shit is ridiculously good. It's more like a dessert than a drink. I'm A/Bing it with Four Roses Small Batch, which is a great cheap bourbon, but man.

Boys, a great scotch is something else.

Had Talisker 10 last night, good peaty stuff. If I can find my list Ima insert it somewhere in the middle. It was pleasant enough, but it's no Ardbeg 10 or Lagavulin 16 or Laphroaig 10. No sir.

Ardbeg is by far my favorite ultra-peaty scotch so far. It's heavier on smoke than the other Islay malts (Lagavulin is more medicinal and salty, Laphroaig more pure peat, and Talisker way less powerful than the other three). Brilliant brilliant stuff. Feels like you're drinking a cigar. :wah:

Talisker is inoffensive and uninteresting. Probably a good introduction to peaty scotch along with Johnny Walker Green. Whatever. Boring.

Dalmore 12 is an excellent sherried scotch. It's a lot more flavorful than your average 12 - strong citrus nose and palate. I like this a lot, even though it's not anywhere close to the brilliance of the 18. I suspect that the 15 will be great value, can't wait to try it.

Give the McCallan 12 and 18 year another chance. I don't see how you couldn't love those..

I haven't had the 18. I liked the 12 well enough, but as a scotch addict I prefer more powerful/full-bodied stuff. This isn't it. The older expressions are probably a lot more interesting, but fok that shit is expensive here.

Edit - the 18 is $250, same price as Johnnie Walker Blue and 75 bucks more expensive than my beloved Dalmore 18. Jesus.

First, I have to admit that I have developed a mancrush for this Richard Paterson guy, who is the Big Cheese at Whyte & Mackay/Isle of Jura/Dalmore. He's responsible for my beloved Dalmore 18 so I want to have his malted babies. Fonny guy too:

On to the whisky now. Isle of Jura Prophecy is a masterful concotion, with a wonderfully sweet nose that gives way to a full body of smokey peat. The smoke aftertaste lingers on forever. Pure genius.

Mr. Paterson likes his scotch powerful and in your face, but without any alcohol bite. Everything of his that I've tasted so far manages that, even the dirt-cheap Whyte & Mackay Special blend, which is worlds better than shit like Johnnie Walker Red. When I lose my job and have to resort to scamming unsuspecting gamblers to scrape up half a living, I'm going to drown my sorrows in Whyte & Mackay Special Blended Scotch Whisky. Can't wait!

Finally, that Royal Lochnagar stuff is a special bottling that I'd never seen before. I only got to have a 1/4 ounce sample, but boy was it ever impressive. Sherried malt that's very reminiscent of the older Glenfiddichs (18 & 21). At $150 a bottle though, we're unlikely to ever give this a second spin.

Oh, I also had a sample of another special bottling, Ben Nevis 17 (Signatory Vintage), which tasted like water after the Lochnagar. Boys, when tasting whiskies, you need to start mild and end with the strong stuff. Not that I had any way of knowing in this case. Waste of my $1.75.
