So I just watched The Hurt Locker - I thought it was very good, but it's basically a guy explaining how he loves his job, which involves insane amounts of pressure and real-time do-or-die decision-making. Hardly best picture material, even less so than Avatar IMO. I also think that Avatar's anti-military, pro-tree-hugging message will have swayed the voting its way.

Tempted to bet on Avatar now.
