More importantly Mudcat, why are you still paying off a couch.

A couch?

A house, sure. Car, okay. Couch?

no.

If you have to finance a couch, then you've got to much couch.

*Sorry Mudcat, I meant Vegas Dave.

Mrs. X, VDave is the one financing the couch not Mudcat

Pay attention pal

VDave there is also the legal aspect of it. If he stays on your couch for 10 days and it turns into 25 days then you may need to get him evicted to get him out and that's like a 60 day process in most places.

Tell him the reasons why it's just not practical in a diplomatic way and if he is in fact a good friend he will understand.

and, on a somewhat related note, my sister is visiting. We're friendly but have NOTHING in common. I won't go into a long diatribe, but I will say she's probably at least 70-80 pounds overweight. I just heard her on the phone talking to I think her husband. She told him that we worked out together yesterday. She did maybe three sit ups. She was supposed to leave tomorrow morning but is now thinking about staying an extra day so she can come to roller derby practice to try and sell spa products to rollergirls from her new multi level marketing business Beauticontrol.

Unfortunately I asked the head roller honchos if it was okay, and they said no <-----big fat lie.

and.....you're not being unreasonable, don't let the guy stay if you don't want him there.

Mudcat if a friend asked to borrow your car what would you say?

(I'm actually referring to your Impala NOT your girlfriend)

Depends. Are they taking it for a couple hours for a few errands or a month-long road trip to participate in military actions in Guatemala?

As mentioned, that was VegasDave. I have owned my couch free and clear for many years.

In an aside that may be of interest to betplom, I also own my car free and clear.

Both are excellent forms of transportation.

It was a couch, a living room set, a dining room set, and a bedroom set.

When you move 1500 miles for a job that has promised you a long term commitment, you expect to be at that job for a while. It isn't really a "test run", it's a long-term move.

You decide you want to live comfortably and come home to a nice furnished place instead of a futon. So you finance some furniture with a no-interest plan.

If you feel like judging me, go ahead. It is a very manageable interest free payment each month, I personally don't see what the big deal is.

Not speeking for Mrs X but I think if you knew it was interest free she might think differently. I think she felt you had some big APR on the couch purchase.

One time I was sitting on a futon high out of my gourd. I really, really, really thought I could make a car out of the futon. It was so clear to me. Sometimes if I think about it deeply, I can recall the feeling.
