It is a complex story. Current strategies are declining. I have new strategies being researched and implemented that I have a lot of hope for but I need time. So I am projecting a valley where my earnings will dip to a level that will simply not cover my living expenses. Because I managed my money poorly during the big scalping/arbing years, I have nothing to fall back on.

In time, the new strategies should get me back up there and beyond but that is speculative. It's also possible my developing strategies may be complete shite and worth nothing. I don't think so but it's gambling. Who can say? I can't plan my future on them.

So supplemental income seems like a prudent plan. Hopefully temporary.

As I have discussed a bit here, I have been feeling some impetus lately to look for supplemental sources of income. Today I followed up on an ad for

INDEPENDANT CONTRACT CARRIERS WANTED

I had no idea what to expect; I was not planning my future around it; I was just somewhat curious.

Jesus christ.

Apparently what people do is deliver newspapers for 4 cents each. If there is an insert flyer, that is an addition 1.15 cents each.

So let's say there is an insert flyer every time. In order to make 50 bucks, you would have to sit down and stuff 1000 flyers into 1000 papers and then go deliver them to 1000 doors. That would snag you about 50 bucks (less the price of gas).

Who the fuck does that? Like if all 1000 doors were in one long hall, it wouldn't be worth it. But people are driving to some assigned territory and delivering these things door-to-door for a nickel a shot.

Madness. I used to have a job delivering Sears flyers when I was a kid and I'm pretty sure I made a nickel each for those. But I was like 10 years old and that was the better part of 40 years ago.

Maybe there is some subtle beauty of this situation and I am missing it. Seems like madness.
