“I discipline her. Obviously every person is different, and I definitely will use my best judgement to discipline her depending on the situation. I definitely will — obviously not leave bruises or anything like that on her. But I definitely will discipline her, harshly, depending on what the situation is.”


What does a 1 year old do to deserve harsh "discipline?"

Does a 1yo even understand what "no" means?
 
Teenagers don't even understand the word "no." Disciplining children is a tough task. Some children, depending on their personality, will respond to a sharp, firm and loud "NO." Some children will not give a shit not because they don't give a shit, but because they just don't understand. It's a fine line. For the most part, my kids listen to me. My wife, not so much, but they understand that when papa bear says NO he means NO. Kids are different these days that's for sure. There's enough kids in my hood and hanging at my house that I should write a book on childrens personalities and how to manage deal with them. This is giving me a headache.
 
I got spanked and got slaps behind the head when I clearly deserved it.

Using a prop to discipline a child seems like a big no-no. But Southerners gonna Southern, based on the comments I read. The cultural divide seems so great in the US of A.
