Mint Juleps, big hats and flashy low cut dresses. Another episode of I Am Caitlyn? Nope, its Kentucky Derby time! The last 5 years, I have written Kentucky Derby breakdowns for various blogs and have been fairly successful in my predictions. In those 5 years, I have picked the exacta in 3 of them (using 4 horses). This column, I will give a synopsis of 4 horses who you should box in an exacta come Saturday.
10. Whitmore: At the most winning post position spot in the Derby, Whitmore has great value at 20-1. Coming in 3rd at the Arkansas Stakes was actually a positive, not a negative. The horse came back from a troubled trip after a bobbled start to finish in the money. Victor Espinoza (winning jockey of the last 2 Kentucky Derbies) is getting upon a horse he has never ridden. That might scare off bettors ,but shouldnt scare you. Espinoza is known at getting the most out of a horse with little interaction.
9. Destin: Horse hasnt run for eight weeks. Bettors seem scared by the layoff and have the odds set at 15-1. Trainer Todd Pletcher has had success with horses on long layoffs. His strong 1st place finish at the Tampa Bay Derby and healthy spirit this week at Churchill has me feeling the best is yet to come from this horse.
19. Brodys Cause: Horse runs extremely well in large fields. Doesnt get much larger than the Derby. Also has been working out well in Churchill and after winning Keenelands Bluegrass Stakes a month ago its hard not to like this horse at 12-1.
3. Creator: Up and coming horse., Arkansas Derby winner April 16 in a race that featured numerous horses running Saturday. Trainer Asmussen is the Dan Marino of horse racing. Many wins, but never the BIG one. Can this colt bring him the glory he deserves? The betting public has him at 10-1 and will probably bet him up before post time.
There you have it guys.
