Trump will NEVER show any amount of respect to Prime Minister Mark Carney , but the clock is very much ticking on the trade war shenanigans. It’s very quickly becoming increasingly unpopular among Republicans as it’s clear there’s absolutely no clear purpose to any of this. Pro-tariff protectionists see him as wishy washy and unable to commit and pro free trade neocons don’t like that he isn’t using this as a negotiation tactic.

Very likely this peters out in the next couple of months. There’s absolutely nothing America can do to genuinely create substantial harm to the Canadian economy without creating equal or greater harm to the American economy. America imports too much raw materials and supply lines are too integrated. Domestic production would be obliterated by high blanket tariffs. Canadian and Mexican trade is far more economically impactful than the dollar amount would otherwise indicate.
