Sure. The key is to track everything. Your wife being a dietitian means she won't think you're crazy for weighing your food. Weigh your food 🤝 Track calories in/out 🤝

I use my Garmin watch to track calories burned but you don't really need to. You can compute your basal metabolic rate online, and then an hour of easy cardio burns roughly 600 calories for gueys our size. 800 calories for medium intensity (lots of sweat but not wrecked at the end of the workout). 1000 calories for high intensity (rekt/need a post-workout nap).

But yeah the watch is a nice way to get a better estimate:

I want to create a daily deficit of ~500 calories, so on the average day where I do an hour or so of cardio I eat ~2500 calories.

I might not get to exercise today so the goal will be to stay around 1700 calories in, a bit more if I end up walking a lot.

I just had a big bowl of Oatmeal Crisp with milk. I measured both and logged them into Carb Manager (MyFitnessPal is more popular, I've just been using Carb Manager because I'm used to it from my keto days).
