In my time on the forums there are many varied types of people that I have encountered. Some serious, some funny and some delusional and some who change depending on what side of the topic they are on. One thing I have also noticed is how many people either use, have used or are totally accepting of those that use drugs. Its no secret that I dont now nor have I ever used drugs but many of you have. It got me to thinking, do users classify themselves in relation to other types of users?

Does a crystal meth user look down on say a huffer? Does a heroine user think they are superior to a crackhead? Do those addicted to prescription pills consider themselves less of an addict than those who use cocaine? On the flip side, does the huffer consider himself the lowest form of addict?

I find it ironic that a cokehead wouldnt allow a crackhead in their house nor even allow a huffer to manicure their lawns but Im sure in some areas of life this is the case.

So sound off, are there sliding scales and accepted class levels amongst drug users?

Why is it drinkers at a table are tolerant of non-tea toters? Cause when everyone has to buy a round it costs less for the drinkers to have to pay for the non-drinker's soda or club soda or whatever.

All part of the Nicky "Claude Sick Gambler Fraud' book of scalping beyond the sports world. Sweet!

Yes there are sliding scales and double standards. There is downright hypocrisy in some cases. I have seen many idiotic things.

Many, many users of prescription drugs don't even think of themselves as drug users and will look down their nose at street drug users and drinkers. Many alcohol users are judgemental of other drug users as if alcohol was not a drug.

There is a whole big thing in 12 step programs where many AA members don't want people who use drugs other than alcohol to be welcome at their meetings. It is a very big topic which I have seen manifest itself in many idiotic ways.

Recovery community aside, the double standards do exist on the streets. Fair to say that huffers are considered the bottom of the barrel by many types (probably including themselves).

Really it's just like any aspect of the world. It's the same place that racism and religious persecution and all kinds of intolerance come from. People who don't feel good about themselves want to push people who are different down lower and shit on them.

This topic reminds me of one of my favorite book/movies Trainspotting. I don't have the patience to hunt out the exact quote but there is a scene where Begbie - a full-fledged alcoholic and violent sociopathic lunatic - makes a judgemental speech about Spud's heroin use expressing disgust at how he can stick that shite in his arm and he berates Spud's mother for letting him turn out that way.

Because he only drinks, he assumes he is entitles to the moral high ground.

"no way will i poison my body with that shite. all the fucking chemicals. no fucking way" -francis begbie

i LOVE trainspotting. reading the sequel (porno) right now., hopefully danny boyle adapts this one to film as well.
