Why I don't like Devilwoman

*Half the names in this post have been changed. I feel that this person doesn't want to be outed as having a long, heartfelt conversation about gamelive or a non entity like Devilwoman. Me, I'll talk and think about all kinds of stupid crap. I've got no rep to protect. For the sake of annonimity, we'll call this person Mr. Z

Mr. Z and I had a long, heartfelt conversation about...Gamelive on our morning drive to Taco Bell. *head in hands* Specifically about why I really wanted to metaphorically punch Devilwoman in the face.

But why? Why all the anger Mrs. X?

Oh man, I don't want to take the time to recreate a twenty minute conversation, let's see how I do with a summary.

I HATE it when a repressed group fights for rights, "makes it", and then promptly becomes the thing that they fought. I know that's the norm, but it just kills me to see it, even in a goofy, snarky, spoofy, not serious internet forum.

Devilwoman to be accepted, or really is, acting like one the worst, lowbrow, immature, man boys out there. In real life and on the internet, I hate to see women acting slutty and dumb. It hurts my heart because I want my gender to take all the things they've fought for and be better. Believe me, I'm not above watching porn, or making a crass joke but there's a line in my head and although it's not a black and white one, Devilwoman has crossed it and irritated me.

So, Mr. Z asks me, "You say that you want to treat your forum post like you would in reality. In reality, if you met Devilwoman, you wouldn't goad her on or make fun of her. So, why on the forum?"

Touche Mr. Z. The reason I wouldn't do it in real life is because obviously there would be potential repercussions and on an internet forum the worst that could happen is that I slaughter someone with my searing wit, razor sharp barbs and my off the charts intellect.

What? I'm just saying.

So, in the interest of keeping my beliefs in line with my actions I will no longer be f*ucking with Devilwoman. Even if she is a dude.

Now gamelive....I've got stuff to do today. Stop dragging me down with your warm, comforting tendrils.

Until I see proof to the contrary, I will assume devilwoman is some dopey dude doing shtick, like a zillion others I have seen over the years.

If you have been around forums for any length of time, you would be a fool to think otherwise.

As for the value of shtick to a forum, I am not big on it but I am probably in the minority.

Mrs X, here's where you're wrong. Men who think of women only as sexual objects are not going to be disuaded by anything that any women has to say on the subject. Similarly, men who do not categorize and classify women will not be disabused of that opinion in spite of Devilwoman's penchant for porn. If your goal is to be viewed as equal, which is everyone's right, then you should embrace the fact that there are all kinds of women (as there are men) and it would be asinine to label all women as loose because one of your sisters decides to get a little dirty with the boys. The men you are worried about viewing women in this manner already have their mind made up and their opinions are etched in stone. Why would you pander or care about those men anyway? They are not worthy of your crusade.

I know it's most likely schtick. But, why not. Anything that gives me reason to write about my pet peeves or practice my therapy skills works for me. Who knows what lurker is reading that could actually benefit....or.....sorry.....couldn't continue on with a straight face.

It did of course but because she's a woman she feels as though it should be kept in the privacy of a girls night out away from the leering glances of all those judgmental boys. That thinking hurts your cause more than Devilwoman's posting provocative pictures. That's exactly the kind of separation that the women's movement looks to do away with and has basically succeeded.
