This is not my list. It is from an article at imdb. Just tossing it out there for the sake of discussion.

Again, not my list. I disagree with some of it, perhaps most of it. I disliked The Thin Red Line so much I did not even watch it to the end. Yet it was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar and a bunch of other awards. I call that vastly OVERrated.

Bottle Rocket? Really?

I love Miller's Crossing though. Good choice there.

1.Miller's Crossing (1990)
2.The Thin Red Line (1998)
3.The Sweet Hereafter (1997)
4.25th Hour (2002)
5.Jackie Brown (1997)
6.Bottle Rocket (1996)
7.Into the Wild (2007)
8.Safe (1995)
9.Big Night (1996)
10.Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
11.Falling Down (1993)
12.Naked (1993)
13.Dead Again (1991)
14.Before Sunrise (1995)
15.Equilibrium (2002)
16.Zodiac (2007)
17.Truly Madly Deeply (1990)
18.American Movie (1999 Documentary)
19.Orlando (1992)
20.Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002)

I guess Bottle Rocket did not make a huge impact on me. I liked it fine and everything but . . .

Hey maybe I need to see it again.

There are a bunch there that have me scratching my head and wondering if I need to see them again.

25th hour was OVERrated IMO. It had some potential but Spike Lee just had to throw his self-indulgent crap in there.

Jackie Brown - good movie
Big Night - good movie

They seemed to be fairly well rated from what I saw but okay, I'll go along with those.

18.American Movie (1999 Documentary)

Absolutely love that one. Think This is Spinal Tap, but applied to the world of an aspiring moviemaker who comes from a trailerpark background. Unlike Spinal Tap, it's a real documentary, but the end result is the same - you're both laughing at the main character and feeling sympathy for him.

Very funny and very sad, oftentimes both at once.

8.5 Matty Rains

See that makes sense. I haven't seen that one but given the circumstances and the lack of hype, that would be an underrated movie. That's what a list like this should be about.

I don't see how Zodiac or Confessions of a Dangerous Mind or Into The Wild or Leaving Las Vegas are on there. I liked those movies but they were all well publicized and rated at an appropriately respectable level.

I remember a few years back one of my buddies going on and on about Bottle Rockets, so I rented, I was let down, I thought maybe I put such big expectations on the movie. Good to see others felt the same way.

Jackie Brown is one of my all time favorite movies. De Niro was great.

Yeah this list is awful. Not that the movies are all awful but I think we could come up with a much better list.

I will think about and get back to you.

It is awful. Worse, if you go on the imdb site where it is published, there are no explanations. It is just a soulless listing of movie titles with plot summaries and stars.

They include the overall imdb ratings and they are all fairly high. How does that make sense?

Bad idea to make a thread out of it to be honest.

:bashing:

I just decided to make a Top 10 instead

Cougar's List:

1. Buffalo '66
2. Swimming With Sharks
3. Death Proof
4. Owning Mahony/Love Liza (pick your depressing Phillip Seymour Hoffman film, they are both great)
5. American Splendor
6. The Rules of Attraction
7. The Game
8. 21 Grams
9. Deconstructing Harry
10. An Unfinished Life

Let me also say that I have no idea what the IDBM rating of any of these are, and one of my faves American Psycho didn't make the list only because of it's notoriety.
