Jeff Bridges is unbelievable in Crazy Heart. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I don't even enjoy country music and the songs in this were enjoyable. I can see why this movie was so critically acclaimed. The critics got it right this time. I have come to find out Bridges performed all of the songs himself. Even better. 4.5/5 Steviestars, a real tearjerker.

Real Time, starring Jay Baruchel and Randy Quaid. A douchebag gambling addict gets abducted by a hitman sent to kill him for owing money and insulting his debtors. For the most part nothing special. Quaid's accent is pretty brutal but not enough to make it unwatchable. The ending is pretty easy to telegraph but somewhat entertaining nonetheless. 2.5/5 Steviestars.

I went to see True Grit this afternoon. Took me a good 10 minutes to get used to Jeff Bridges' mumblespeak.

Very good flick - not on par with the best Coen Bros shit if you ask me (Fargo, O Brother, No Country), but it was compelling and stunning and the music sounded good and shit. 8.3 Matty Rains.

Crazy Heart is on my list of movies to see. I have a hard time watching movies about gambling. I always end up getting angry because of the poor job most of them do in portraying gamblers. I think the last REAL good gambling movie I saw was "The Gambler" with James Caan, and that movie is 30 years old.

Owning Mahoney is a fairly recent movie that did a good and accurate job of capturing the compulsive gambling experience I thought.

FYI Crazy Heart is not about gambling at all. Maybe you know that and you meant the thought on gambling as a totally separate thing but it reads like you are expecting Crazy Heart to be about gambling.

Hm, that's a lot of Matty Rains.

I take it that you haven't seen it? You would enjoy it quite a bit IMO. Story about a resourceful teenage girl who goes on a quest to avenge her father's death. If theaters are still showing it in your area, I would pay the $10-$12 to see it on the big screen - the scenery is always a big part of the Coen Bros' movies.

My gambling reference was to his review of "Real Time". Owning Mahoney was a good film. I forgot about that one. My girlfriend thought it was slow, but I was enthralled throughout. That had to be the gambler in me.

Oh haha. I forgot all about the Real Time part of the discussion. Sometimes I get totally lost in my own thoughts.
