Someone fill me in. Is it a fucking poodle? A puddle? What the fuck is it?
Monkey doesn't get shanty's postmodern art. How shocking.
No. I don't. THAT'S WHY I'M ASKING!!!!!1111111
I sometimes forget that I'm speaking with linguistic aristocracy. My bad.
A poddle is whatever mental image is triggered by the sight of the word, by its phonetic properties.
Poddle.
I'm seeing a lake filled with purple goo.

excellent thread MF
I must admit I have always been surprised by your lack of appreciation of shanty
polaroid great post with post #3
to answer the question,
MF i actually don't know. Almost all of shanty I get but that one I am not sure of. Just like with Shakespeare some of his word usage is unclear even to scholars.
Yes at first I though it was a variation on "poodle". But now I am not sure about that. And even if it is, the way he is using it clearly different from how we think of it. It is interesting in which contexts he uses it.
To my knowledge, and I could be wrong, but to my knowledge, the first known usage of the term, and more importantly the best-known first usage of the term, was when it appeared in a description of Pavy as SBR's "#1 poddle".
It's interesting how many times Pavy has been the subject and I assume inspiration for shanty's work. Quite often when you ask "when was the first time shanty used the term....." or "what is shanty's best excoriation of a........" you will wind up reading a work with Pavy involved in some way. Not always of course but Pavy clearly has a very strong creative effect on shanty.
So don't feel like an idiot or embarrassed, as it is so easy to do when discussing shanty with others. We often don't have any better an idea of what you are confused about than you.
