I am sure you've all heard about it at some point by now, but after receiving the Gershwin award at the White House McCartney ended the evening by saying this about former President George W. Bush:

"After the last eight years, its great to have a President who knows what a library is."

Hailing from England and having earned no university degrees of his own, the Beatle may not know W. was the first American president to earn a master's degree in business administration from Harvard.

Not to mention Bush is married to a librarian.

I wasn't a fan of GW as a prez, especially 2nd term, but this makes Pauly look like the real dummy.

Paul made a big jackass of himself several years ago at either the Grammy's or MTV Awards or something. He was a presenter, and Lauryn Hill won for something or the other.

He appeared half drunk to me. Then he said something that I guess in his head was comedy. Something like "And the winner is..oh yea...it's that one dude Larry Hill."

Nobody laughed. Everyone was uncomfortable. He came off as a jagoff.

It was not an amazingly great line but it was a decent line expressing a viewpoint held by just about everyone outside the United States who ever saw W's act, and a good chunk of Americans.

There is no way around it, W was and is astonishingly out-to-lunch. As for the library issue specifically, no doubt it refers obliquely to W's frequent butchering of the English language which is legendary.

He is ripe for ridicule always.

Really bad comment, Dubya was a big fan of books.

Wow this thing got epic quick.

So Muddy is the lone defeneder...

I think Fiver nailed it...at least do some research on the topic first...it came off as attacking America which isn't cool, but especially in Paul's case, I mean, dude you make an awful lot of Anti-American remarks for someone who's always here.

An MBA plus his wife was an actual librarian...

Fail.
