Not exactly a timely question, I know. But I did a search for it and don't see a thread, and I just got around to watching it this week.

I thought it was very good. I give it a 7.7 out of 10 which rounds off to 8 for my imdb rating. Not a lot of movies end up in that rarefied air.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

I enjoyed the court case and guessing how that would go. I enjoyed the process of an inspiration leading to this massively successful phenomenon. (I mean, I find it frustrating - why can't I come up with a billion dollar idea?? - but it is interesting to watch). I liked the characterizations and the way the whole thing was presented.

Beyond that, I really felt like it was more than just a story going from point A to point B. It captured a slice of our times and our culture, for better or worse. It made some social commentary which elevated it above a simple narrative movie.

7.7

As a movie goes I didn't like it. As a story though I was interested. If it is an accurate portrayal of Mark Zukerberg then it is a look fascinating at his incredible intelligence and the ability to facilitate other intelligent people vs his dramatically social awkwardness.

I had no interest in it when I first heard about it. Hell, I had a Facebook account and I canceled it. What do I care about Facebook?

But I like David Fincher and I heard good things and finally gave it a shot.

I thought it captured something. It has that quality where I could see watching it 10, 20, 40 years from now and it will stir something in me. Those stirrings will not be all good and happy, but they are significant to my time. It's about Facebook but more than that, it's about what Facebook represents and the way the world is changing.

I couldn't help but think about Tunisia as I was watching. Not that that sort of thing was anywhere near what the founder (thief??) of the original idea had in mind. But it's this big organic phenomenon of my time.

Which would mean very little if I didn't find the movie watchable but I did think it was well done.
