"I found that, in my kitchen or in my dining room, it created a significant visual impact. My land is 12 feet lower than his.… It caused me visual harm"

Oh, please. this guy is just a rotten, crusty complainer, but ya I guess the sound of pucks would be annoying for some. It's a sweet looking rink.

I never played with lights on the ponds, but with that size rink all you would need would be 2 decent size lights. The old guy is a prick, but at the same time I can see the sound of a puck hitting the boards bothering people. I don't have boards on my rink. just 2x10's and my net. God help the neighbour who complains about my rink, but I doubt that would happen. The Asians are too lazy to call by-law people, the other neighbours use it as do a couple other kids in the hood.

I can see other neighbours in Sherbrooke turning against this rotten prick. Kids should be outside playing and getting exercise.

According to the city, Boss needs a permit to build a rink with boards, although its website doesn’t specify that detail.

Whereas I do think having any kind of activity available for the youth is a good thing; I do see how that would be frustrating to live next to and hear all day long. Hopefully at some point they can come to a compromise.

The guy paid real money for the house and with the house comes the environment surrounding and inside of it being how he prefers it.

He prefers it without the sound of hockey pucks.

Game. In fact, he should be looking into legal action for defamation from all the bad press he is getting. 1-800-boner18

Pucky you like hockey? That's a great story. This guy paid for a home.

The point is, pucky, sure, one home owner may have the right to create and enjoy something, while another home owner has the right to enjoy a peaceful environment. Not being able to have a rink like that in your yard, is not the end of the world. I don't think a full sized rink like that is appropriate for a neighborhood personally, unless all neighbors are ok with it. That is something that would cause a lot of noise and traffic in your neighborhood of people coming and going. If dude really wants something like that, perhaps he should find somewhere else to build it, or down scale it a little bit.
