Ordinarily I would tell you no freakin' way are we (as in us) paying $50 for a WEC pay-per-view.
These are not the times to begin charging for your product. We (us) are used to our free telecasts on VS. Network. We (us) will not stand for this. We (us) were absolutely shafted on the last UFC ppv event, watching Anderson Silva trot around like Julia Stiles with a random bruther. We (us) will NOT spend a dollar on this event.
Then I (me) looked at the lineup. My God (tooth fairy). What a card.
Good thing I'll (we'll) be at a concert or I'd (me) be dishing out the funds. If you (y'all) are a fan of MMA, this should be a decent one to check out.
Here is what I (coin) like.
Jose Aldo -310
Urijah Faber +255
Faber is the face of the WEC. He's a goofy, personable ball of energy. He has been a champion and the fans love him. The problem is that the competition has just gotten better. First it was Mike Brown (twice) and now Jose Aldo dominating the division.
Whatever price you can get Aldo at is a steal. Just a beast. Possesses all of the tools and will be sitting in the top dog spot for some time. Still has the makings for a fun fight, just not so much for Faber and his backers.
Donald Cerrone -115
Ben Henderson -105
I like Ben Henderson here and I like him big. In a rematch meeting, it will be Cerrone looking for revenge. Isn't Cerrone always looking for revenge? Be it Henderson or Jamie Varner. The guy is super talented, but loses more than he should, for one reason or another.
If this fight is 25% as entertaining as their first meeting, it will have you on the edge of your seat. In my opinion, meeting #1 was up for MMA fight of the year (Le-Smith, Melendez-Thompson).
This is the thing about most WEC fighters - the vast majority leave it all in the cage. I'm not sure what the UFC needs to do, but something has gone wrong. I don't think I've ever watched a WEC event and been left with a bitter taste that wasn't alcohol in my mouth.
Back to Ben Henderson. Kid's got some tools and fantastic hair to boot. Even when he finds himself in a pickle (no homo) as he did against Cerrone, his amazing flexibility saw him eluding some sick submissions that would have most guys tapping like a mofo. I'm not buying the Cerrone hype train. Never have, and I will continue to cash tickets fading him. He's good, just not that good.
Shane Roller -115
Anthony Njokuani -105
I absolutely love Njokuani. He's a bad man and he looks like Shannon Sharpe. In his last fight he chased down a 12-year old looking dork and kicked him in the face FROM BEHIND. Love it.
The problem I have at times is riding a guy who has been good to me just for the hell of it. The fact is that Shane Roller is no Chris Horodecki (12-year old runt) and should end Njok's 3-fight win streak.
Other notables I like:
Chan Sung Jung -110 I'm so sick of losing money on Asians, but for as much fun as Leonard Garcia is to watch, he's lost to Cole Miller in his career. It's like a doctor dropping a baby on its head and justifying it by listing off all the babies he DIDN'T drop on their head. No mames guey!
Demetrious Johnson -135 His opponent is Brad Pickett. This is Brad Pickett. Insert banjo and jaw harp duet here.
Tyler Toner +245 - No comment. And that's that!
