Ok this one I am double posting in forumville to make as many as possible aware. I thought I got ripped off and wasted my time calling the merchant and the Credit Card company, and I don't want you to do the same.

Found this out today. I received a $100 Card from a business contact. I spent $28.17.

I went to a Sunoco last night on the way to my girl's house to buy $10 of gas with the card. Today I go to use it and it has a zero balance. I clearly thought I forgot to say no receipt or whatever and that some douche behind me bought $71.83 in gas, so I was ready to dispute the charge. Here is the interesting part.

If you use a gift card to buy fuel and pay at the pump they put a $75 additional authorization on the card.

Massive amount for that. Good to know that no one ripped me off and that it will be credited back to me when the merchant settles the actual $10 amount.

Just thought I would make a note of that for all of you who received gift cards this holiday season. That is weird. I am very glad that when me and my girl had dinner last night and I ripped out the card to pay that she insisted on paying. I mean sure I could have with my bank debit card or cash, but that would just have been embarrassing.

Up here they hold $100 until the shit clears. If you enter an amount manually they'll only hold that amount and preset the pump to dispense that amount, otherwise it has no way of knowing when yer gonna stop pumping. Common one time Stevie boy.

I've never actually owned a car.

This isn't anything new, I bought gas with a gift card yesterday, U I went inside and paid first, so only the amount I wanted would be debited from the card.

I

this. you have to go in and tell them exactly how much you want on the card if you don't want the excessive hold on your card. Their thinking is that most vehicles will not take 75.00 in gas. So instead of having someone pump $x then not have that available on their debit/gift card they hold that amount until the transaction goes through. Which can take 5 business days. You go in, they get their money up front and who knows, you may also purchase a tasty beverage as well.

by the way....Tully...Bacon bra! Awesome.

Oh wow I now realize that is a bacon bra.

Hah! HAH!

That is just #$#int redonkulous about the hotels.

Oh that's nothing! My wife and I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando and they put a $200 hold per NIGHT! We were staying for 5 nights and they put a hold on my account for $1000! Luckily, at universal you can charge stuff you do in the park and City Walk back to your hotel room. So it worked out. But that was recockulous.

Jesus man how is this crap legal. Oh that's right, land of the free (to get raped by CC companies).
