If that is losing, it is the sweetest loss of all time. Wells' bloated contract has been an anchor on the Blue Jays franchise for years.

When I heard he had been traded, I assumed the Blue Jays would have to eat a lot of the contract. The fact that the Angels are ingesting the whole thing is astonishing. Over 20 million a year, they have just volunteered to pay for a .280, 25 HR, 85 RBI type of player. Madness.

Now whether the Jays reinvest those newly freed funds wisely or blow it all again is another question.

But for today - really bad business by the Angels. Big break for the Jays.

Blitty's post is definitely short sighted but Vernon Wells does bring a .847 OPS to Anaheim and that is 27 points higher than their highest OPS in 2010 (Matsui).

But yeah, I'm pretty sure Toronto is glad to be rid of that ridiculous contract. Hopefully they make some moves with all that money.
