Many good points raised. I had an initial reaction to label some of the conclusions she jumps to about the War on Drugs as over-simplified and self-serving, but the result in terms of incarceration stats are black-and-white, pun intended. It's a grand clusterfuck.

yeah, I kinda felt the "war on drugs" is mostly a cliched pot smoking hippy complaint. But now I get it

I cannot find the original vid I saw of her speech which made me fall in love. But this is pretty close:

So many important points :bowpanda:
Clearly dissects the foking evil that is mass incarceration. Doesn't have much to do with serious crime. Alot to do with profit and power.

not what it is.
If you pay attention it clearly and easily explains all the factors that work to create the pure evil system of jails, blacklisting, etc..

The system that we allowed the bastards politicians to create based on white fear and ignorance is in many ways worse than slavery.
Pay attention and stop being a bonehead.

I watched about the first minute and that's how it across. I didn't watch the last 9 minutes as I was at work. There is usually a common theme to these videos.

What kind of chants would you like to see. We'll make a Jair assumption that most of these politicians are self-serving only and couldn't care less about anyone else, including Obama.

"hell no we wont go"(?)

Changes, sure:

take the money incentive out of incarceration.
no for profit prisons
no bonuses for arresting/convicting people
don't allow police to keep $ from busts
stop systematic harassment of poor people

stop piling on. --branding people felons, denying future opportunity, trying to force them to pay for their own incarceration etc..

I have not watch the videos yet, but speaking of prisons... Norway will be closing some of it's prisons permanently because lack of utilization/cost. They have made a deal with Netherlands to take in Norweigian offenders in their prison.

Good list. I'm going to throw in a vote for education equality. The whole prison cycle starts, in part, because poor kids in shitty neighborhoods are given shitty educations in shitty public schools. Zero tolerance rules lead to the kids with the most troubles being suspended and expelled, sent back to their shitty home situations where, usually, they'll get into the activities that will eventually land them in prison.

This country has way too many resources to not give every kid a fair shake at an education and a safe environment to learn in. It should be an embarrassment.
