UFC light heavyweight Tito Ortiz arrested following domestic abuse complaint
by Steven Marrocco on Apr 26, 2010 at 4:03 pm ET
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz was arrested this morning on suspicion of domestic abuse, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Lieutenant Mike Reynolds today informed MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that HBPD officers were called to Ortiz's residence at 9:53 a.m. PT local time Monday morning on a domestic violence call and arrested Ortiz at 11:45 a.m.
Reynolds said Ortiz is currently being held at the Huntington Beach Police Department and is "cooperating with the investigation."
News of the arrest was first reported by TMZ.com.
Ortiz shares a residence with former adult film actress Jenna Jameson in the beachside town. Reynolds declined to confirm Jameson as the crime's victim but said the domestic violence call was made by the as-yet-unidentified victim's father.
Reynolds said HBPD detectives are investigating the alleged crime and will pass the case information to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, who will decide whether to file formal charges.
Ortiz, 35, is currently on TV screens as a coach of "The Ultimate Fighter 11" opposite former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. However, he is widely expected to exit the show and be replaced by former middleweight champion Rich Franklin.
The UFC earlier this month announced Liddell would face Franklin at UFC 115 on June 12--which all but confirmed Ortiz's exodus from the show. The reality show's traditional format dictates a fight between coaches at the conclusion of each season.
In his most recent octagon appearance, Ortiz (15-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC) lost a split decision to former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin at UFC 106.
