I am wondering not so much about tonight's game - although obviously you can talk about that if you want - I'm also not looking to kick-off a discussion of BCS versus playoff - I would just like Boise explained to me, big picture.

Lemme tell you where I am coming from. My impression - and I stress it is just an impression - I am FAR from a NCAAF expert - but isn't Boise's schedule much softer than many of the SEC/PAC10/BIG10/BIG12 schools? Why is Boise so highly rated?

They are favored by over 5 touchdowns tonight. I am supposed to be impressed that they might have an undefeated season with shit like that in the middle of the schedule?

Didn't Auburn just play and beat an undefeated team? People are complaining that Auburn jumped Boise in the ranking?

Again, I'm not knowledgable. I know I have picked out 2 little bits of data and I'm sure things aren't so slanted in the big picture.

To me, strength of schedule is of HUGE importance. It can't be stressed enough. Talk to me about Boise's strength of schedule.

(Boise -22.5 1st half)

their strength of schedule is dog shit muddy

they do not deserve to play in a national championship as it stands

only if a top tier (SEC, BIG TEN) has 2 losses do they deserve to play

TCU/UTAH winner deserves it more

with that said, they are a super scary team

great qb, fast team and speed kills

very gimmicky offense that takes total advantage of a weak conference

huge home field advantage that uses the turf/jerseys as a camouflage

great play muddy

They have an odd conundrum. They are consistently a talented team - one that dominates the competition that they face with relative ease. However, because of their conference, they are forced to play far inferior teams. The only way for them to play against better teams is for them to schedule out-of-conference games against traditionally strong teams and/or teams in traditionally powerful conferences. However, no teams that have a chance at national titles or bowl representation really want to schedule games against them for fear that they lose and lose their shot at the title game or certain bowl representation.

Boise is consistently undefeated, however this year some people believe they should be ranked #1 and in the BCS Title game because they were undefeated last year AND return something like 21 of 22 starters.

As for their schedule, Boise is big enough now where they aren't just going to go to big-time schools and play without a return game. Most major schools will not play Boise in their blue turf stadium. Oregon did last year, and I believe LSU opens in Boise next year.

Recently Nebraska offered a two-for-one with Boise, with two games in Lincoln and one in Boise. Boise wouldn't agree unless they also got $1 million - a common practice that schools pay out for not having to play the return game, but Nebraska declined.

boise football and memphis basketball are in the same boat... shitty conferences, but struggle to get more quality games on the schedule(although memphis sched. has gotten better) because nobody in the country wants to play them....i think they are better than Mich St. / TCU / Mizzou... i agree with this weeks rankings

It is just kinda fucked up.

Like while I don't think they should be given as much credit for an unbeaten season as many teams, I also don't think they should have it held against them.

What I mean by that is, here I am saying they are favored by 5+ touchdowns tonight so big deal if they win. Big deal if they win a bunch of games like that. But the other way to look at it is, they are huge favorites against many teams - must be a helluva team. That's not something to be held against them.

Fucked up.

It turns out I am making a thread about BCS versus a playoff system after all, because that is the only direction my mind will go with this.
