What do we expect going into the playoffs?

I'm thinking upsets. This ain't the NBA where the cream always seems to rise to the top.

I am hereby predicting there will be a 7 or 8 seed advance past the first round (meaning Montreal, Philly, Colorado or Nashville will win).

Maybe even a couple of them, bitches.

This ain't the NBA where the cream always seems to rise to the top.

The cream does rise to the top once the Cup is awarded, does it not? I don't remember the last time a 7 or 8 seed won it all.

But you're right, the 1st round always seems to bring a couple of surprises. I hope that notorious slacker San Jose makes it past the 1st round this year, would be sweet to witness a Hawks-Sharks Conference final.

Muddy, I can't see Philly beating anyone, goaltending is a HUGE problem for the Flyers.

I think maybe they win one game of round one, thats it.

I agree, the flyers have goaltending problems, and their offense will not be able to keep them in a series with the ancient one Brodeur playing for the other side. I see the Flyers stealing 1 game and if they are totally lucky maybe 2 games, but that will be all.

I'm not going to back up what I say with any kind of analysis because of course the 1-2 seeds look much better than the 7-8's right now. But I have seen it so many times. I recall my beloved Habs being SWEPT in the first round one year - and I think that was the old format with a #16 beating a #1. You wanna talk about things people would have laughed at if you predicted it beforehand. I remember invincible 1 seed Detroit teams going down.

Too many examples to mention really. In the heyday of my fandom, there were decades where you could have made a lot of money just blindly betting the first round upsets.

Calgary and Edmonton both made it to the finals as #8 seeds in the last 5 years or so I believe. (I'm just talking off the cuff here so correct me if I'm wrong.)

Kinda like Pittsburgh to win it all.

I think the West will embarass whoever makes it to the Cup final. Washington probably doesn't make it far because of their crappy goaltending.

Hawks to win it all.

(My betting self wants the Coyotes though - it's all I got riding on the Cup since my Thrashers futures are dead.)
