Last week my business partner and I rented a small office, we got a phone line installed today. So after drinking all day, and getting my ass handed to me in EPL soccer I go by the office.

I get 2 calls in the 10 minutes I am there. They are both from debt collectors. I guess the person on the old number was a dead beat. This shit is going to drive me bonkers. I am not sure what to do, the debt collector said they have the legal right to call, but if the number is changed that cant be accurate. I am hoping the phone company can give me some latter that I can faxed and end this madness. Either way this going to cost me money, I either have to get my lawyer involved or cancel the phone and get a new number, then throw out the business cards I have to pick up tomorrow.

What type of business you running?

I run a few, but this one started as a painting company, but it has ventured into a few other areas. Lately we have been picking up unwanted furniture and getting rid off it. Some of it I am able to resell. We never really marketed it, just kind of been a side business thing, but decided to invest some time and money this year, to see if it could be a full time job for someone.

Tully, I thought if you informed them that they are calling a place of business and the person they are looking for isn't there and you specifically tell them not to call again, that they are to stop calling.

I told them that, they calm they have the legal right to call because that is the number the previous man or women had listed. I guess a dead beat could make up that story to stop the calls. And I dont really want to get in a legal battle, and incur those cost. Who knows if they are going to call again, but I am not going to take the chance. We decided to cancel the number and just get a new one, and eat the cost of the business cards.

next time they call you get a fax number. Then fax them a letter on company letterhead stating that the number is now yours and you have no affiliation with the party they are looking for and they should desist calling it as they are disrupting your business. Save a copy and if they keep calling you may be able to take legal action.

I was thinking along this line, but I got 2 calls from different companies today. Whats to say I wont get another 5 calls next week. I dont have time to send 7 different faxes to different companies. We are just going to change number, and deal with the cost. It sucks, but these calls would make Tully more insane than he already is.

Translation: I run a high stakes poker room there with an 8% rake and I book action from all the local degens.

Tully, I like you pal.
