I think I need to see this, probably tonight. I have heard quite a few bad things from people I respect, but it is Scorcese so I feel I need to see for myself. I have seen a few positive reviews too.

We have had scattered comments here but refresh my memory: what did you guys think of it?

i liked the movie. definitely worth watching. the book is probably a lot better (of course). i like watching the movie before reading the book anyway.

i think teela is trying to throw you off by saying the ending is predictable, because it's really not.

This was unavailable last weekend at my local Blockbuster and I finally got around to seeing it last night.

My verdict:

To discuss it a bit - **EXTREME SPOILER ALERT**

I had no major problem with the twist reveal of Leo's true situation. That seemed plausible enough. I did predict it ahead of time.

But I found the general premise absurd. Even if I was willing to accept that this institution would design this elaborate roleplay to snap him out of it - the idea that they would let it continue while he savagely beats a fellow patient, and climbs around on deadly rockfaces, and blows up a car, and knocks out employees with gunbutts to the head.

Just not remotely plausible to me.

The acting and the presentation were fine but the story left me feeling like I had wasted my time.
