I wish - and I thought it would be something along those lines, but no. 1.4 million visits is only good for around 1800 Canadian dollorz as I write this. Google pulls all the strings here - they decide what ads go on your site and how much you profit off that. We have zero say in it, apart from deciding how many ads we want per page and where they go on the page.
The visits are dying out already. Our bounce rate (i.e. the number of people who read the one article and then leave the site) is crazy high, around 95%. Same thing happened the last time we went viral.
To make a decent living of it, we'd need to write like 10 viral pieces a month. That's not doable unless we open the site to freelancers, HuffPo style.
