Looks like there are a lot of new sites out there. Hopefully a few can pick up steam and offer some content that would force more competition. The first thought is always how can we get some posters from other forums. Thats mostly a waste of time. The war will be won or lost by how a site attracts new players imo. Content attracts real players, not a bunch of bad (air)beat gabbing. Maybe some suggestions could help??

The A sites can leverage their traffic into enough sales to break even. This is a high rope act because of the heavy overhead the A sites carry.

The B sites like EOG and OGD can streamline costs to a very low point and sell inexpensive spots to the few buyers and fill in with affiliate deals(possibly enhanced by an insurance program or other special bonus).

The C sites must leverage the one thing they have going; a small core of dedicated posters. This is a difficult task but possible. Have a very unique contest maybe a fantasy bracket or something verrrry unique. REQUIRE your core to post up to enter. Make the contest so that newbies can join. Focus your SEO effort around this contest(which is why it needs to be super cool and unique). This type of SEO actually has a chance whereas competing for a term like 'sportsbook' or gambling forum has very little chance.

Football is just days away. Still time to make some hay in the Twilight Zone..uh errr Forumville.

in gambling relating thoughts...

Interesting that he basically equates content == contests (they are spelled similar!) as opposed to, well, quality posts and discussion worth reading.

They could probably block off all the Ganch posts and charge 20 bucks a pop for the information in there - Although 90% of their clientele could probably care less about understanding some basic math as long as they're "pickin winnerz".

They've got a good foundation with the Think Tank, but it seems like its crumbling; the garden needs higher walls.

I think last year they realized that their most revenue positive members were the contest whores, not the handicappers that post in the sports forums. Thus the focus on promoting the contests and letting the inmates run the asylum which is their forum currently. Likewise with the Think Tank. Since winning players can destroy a sheet, once their growth levelled off at the end of '08 the first thing to do was to disenfranchise annybody putting out good info.
