Ruud van Nistelrooy Exits Madrid And Enters Hamburg

After being linked with every football club in Europe who have no funds for transfer fees and who were willing to pay the reported $150,000 a week in the hope getting the 2006/2007 stallion instead of the injury prone 2008/2009 donkey, Ruud van Nistelrooy finally signed for Hamburg. Although having an admirable strike rate of 0.69 goals per game over the last 2 seasons, injury after injury limited him to just 16 appearances.

"I have always been attracted to the Bundesliga and that was also a reason for me to make this move. The league is, along with the English and the Spanish, one of the best," he was quoted as saying today. Perhaps he missed out Italy who have had 3 Champions League winners in the past 10 years who, along with England (2) and Spain (4), have performed much better than the German Bundesliga (only a single victory - and only the only team from Germany to reach the final - in 2001).

"As a small child, I used to always watch the weekend highlights programme on the television and followed the Bundesliga from an early age," he later quipped. Hmmmm.
