Rooting for singles over homeruns and popping pills

If you find yourself down four runs in the 8th, or some situation close to that. And you put a couple men on, would you rather a homerun or a singler in that situation?

I personally, root for singles. A homerun still leaves me down. I like rally potential. I know the math guys here will probably destroy me and that's OK. Tell me why a HR is better there. Maybe it isn't?
