One of these two is being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins..

I have been hearing the Kessel-to-Pittsburgh talk for awhile. I guess it all depends on the details - maybe the Leafs would gobble up a lot of $$$ of that contract - but conceptually, it seems to me like it would be a real bad move by Pitt.

So many dollars tied up long term on a few forwards.

Seems like the plan is to make the playoffs then lose in the first round on a bunch of 7-5 games.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded right wing Phil Kessel to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the teams announced.

The Penguins receive Kessel, Tyler Biggs, Tim Erixon and a 2016 second-round pick, while the Leafs receive Nick Spaling, Kasperi Kapanen, Scott Harrington, a 2016 first-round pick and a 2016 third-round pick.

To my way of thinking, which is that depth and defense is very important, a good deal for the Leafs.

Penguins have fucked themselves.

Sorry MrQ, missed your post there.

This is a weird one for me. I like Pittsburgh quite a bit more than Toronto - at least in recent years - but I have developed a genuine disrespect for Kessel. Really hard to see wanting to see him succeed at all.

Mind you, my interest in Pitt is sliding off the table anyway. Their relevance has been dwindling for awhile now.

Kessel will explode in Pittsburgh. Explode in goals scored that is. There's no way he cannot be a consistent 40+ goal scorer with Crosby OR Malkin feeding him the puck. It's a good deal for both teams. We get rid of the contract and lazy, inconsistent play and we get prospects, picks, players in return.
