Popn Wheelies

Im driving around town at noon today and approaching me in the opposite lane is a motorcyclist leaving the red light. From the distance as I see him leave the light he pulls a little wheelie and then as he is just about to pass me he rips down on the gas and pulls the front tire off the ground and blazes past me going the other way like Captain Cool.

I am instantly taken back to my childhood and a day I went over to my friends house to ride his new mini-bike. I had never ridden one before and had no concept of releasing the clutch and applying the gas. I would inevitably dump the clutch and juice the gas which would goose the bikes front tire off the ground and due to my being a fat kid inertia would take over and ol Wal and my buddys new bike would both end up on the ground.

Later on when I was in high school I had another friend who could ride his 10-speed for blocks at a time pulling a wheelie. It was so cool but it wasnt something I could do. Oh I tried but I could never get the timing or pulling the front end up and forcing the pedals with enough force to overcome the weight and maintain enough speed and balance to keep it going. Several times I would manage to pop the front end off the ground and force enough thrust to propel the bike but there was never enough balance and ol Wal and whatever bike I had would end up on the ground.

As a young man and maybe only until recently I would have viewed this display as awesome, totally awesome. I always marveled at the guys who could master their bikes and perform with such flare and confidence. I always wanted to be just like them.

Today though, as this wheelie-popn-badass on his Stallion of Speed fades from my review mirror I am not feeling nostalgic, I am feeling old cause that guy shouldnt be out here on public streets doing all Evil Knivele type things and creating such a distraction.

Asshole, for making remember failures of my youth and for making me realize Im getting older, you wheelie popn asshole.

I was only so-so at wheelies in my younger days. I could hold one for maybe 5 seconds on a good pull but usually less than that. And I do remember guys who could just bomb around on a wheelie indefinitely and it made me jealous.

I'm talking bicycles here, not motorcycles. I have never driven a motorcycle. Never had any interest.

I haven't tried a wheelie on a bicycle in ages. I'm going to try it next time I go out. Well maybe. Lemme think about it.

Pop a wheelie for us Muddy. For all us guys who aren't getting any younger, pop a wheelie and feel what I am not feeling today, young again.

Yes I'll try it. I was getting all kinds of self-consciousness creeping in there about a 47 year-old dude making a spectacle of himself and possibly ending up on his can but screw it. I will go for it and report back.

Muddy, I am willing to PayPal you $50 to capture this youth regenerating potentially disastrous event on film. Not just for our amusement but to be put into the GameLive time capsule for future GameLiver’s eventual amusement as well. Muddy it’s worth it.

Overall it was a bad idea. It did not go well and I could easily have hurt myself.

I tried it a few times and was gradually getting better at it. But then one time you get the front wheel up and peddle just a hair too hard - and you flip right back. I got my legs partially under me and did an ungraceful pratfall/tumble on the grass. I could easily see how a less athletic man would land flat on his back or head. Oof! Don't try this at home kids.

If video of my little adventure was posted, it would be pretty funny. No doubt it would get replayed over and over to my dying day.

wally, you never had proper genetics for wheelie popping... its not your fault. :nope:

i was into all that bmx racing and freestyle ramp shit back in the day... broke too many bones so switched to some flatland comps...fewer headaches and broken fingers

wally, youtube some bmx flatland and freestyle vids....good shit..
