Ok here's the backstory. I bought wooden crates which were eastern white pine. They smelled like wood. I was told the smell would diminish with polyurethane. So I went ahead and used the poly. Well it's been 2 weeks and the crates still smell from the polyurethane. Any remedies to reduce the smell

I'd buy a some pine wood chips (like they use for hamsters) and duct tape a mess of it to the inside of the crates, over top of the of the polyurethane

then get some Laquer and seal it in there

Raker, take my advice buddy.... sign up a the DIY (do it yourself) forums and find the correct sub forum over there to ask your question... i did this a while back concerning some A/C problems i had...

You gotta leave them outside in the elements. Wood is a "living" thing like other raw materials and the wood you purchased is still on it's dying days. It needs to be in a highly ventilated area to dry out. Preferably hotter, but not hot enough to burn or cause cracking.

:hahaha:
of course the smell will diminish will poly
the poly will overcome the pine smell with will be very strong

all wood has a smell , prime it and paint it to seal the wood... but its to late unless ya wanna use some nasty chemicals to strip the poly

I thought you only wanted to get rid of paint smells. I've shot poly paint on guitars before and the smell goes away after several weeks.

What's wrong with the smell of wood?

exactly, smells better than paint or poly or any kind of sealant
I love me the smell of some wood
pine and cedar are lovely...oak not so much
in fact still got some saw dust in my hair from this morning, gonna let it marinate for a while
