Would Montreal fans support a team if they had a 35k seat stadium and strong ownership? The Canadian $ has to stay even with the U.S. also (not the easiest). Ownership did them in before.

With a downtown stadium, I believe so. Baseball culture is pretty strong in Montreal even today.

The weak Canadian dollar was not the only issue 10 years ago. That shitty stadium in the middle of the white ghetto was a big one.

Using Montreal's Eaton Centre as its middle point, it's a 24-minute subway ride or 15-minute drive.

The main issue is that the area around is not very nice. There is the botanical garden, but as far as dining and entertainment, you need to go back downtown unless all you want is a poutine.

Mind you the most authentic poutines are found in the east end in the numerous La Belle Province restaurants.

If I'm not mistaken, the owner with alligator arms also had a lot to do with the downfall of MLB in Montreal.

Loria? I believe the guy was planted there to purposely kill the franchise in the absence of a new stadium deal. The main investors were left with little choice but to pull out. I remember Claude Brochu - he was vilified in the media for ultimately selling his shares to Loria, but he did his damnedest to save the franchise.

Blame whomever you want, but the Expos really needed a downtown stadium and they still need it now. Hard to see how it would not be a big hit if the stadium was in a central location.
