This is where I have had my head in the sand. As I've said I haven't looked at injuries or standings or any of those types of things. I have gone with my program and early on it was successful because everyone was basically healthy but this is the point where injuries are effecting teams and I have to start taking that into account.

Damn the fool in the mirror.

Look at the time table of this injury news and line movement. Saw article of Gibbs at bout 6-7 PM last night and Pinny had WV -1 but right now it is Pitt -1. Wally was leaning WV anyway but looking into more Coach Huggins team has had some issues itself with leading scorer Casey Mitchell being suspended for 3 games (he's back now)

Also Huggins has really ripped into his team for being a horrific shooting team and possibly something wrong down in Morgantown? It's all about "word on the street", which I don't have!

I think it was kinda unknown as of last night. I saw a press release out of pittsburgh time stamped around 6ish pm last night I saw it around 9 pm est it was the first i'd heard of the injury and I'm a big fan.

so with the Super Bowl Distraction, i'm sure alot of people were unaware

Gibbs is pretty big.

he is a scorer, but even when he doesn't score. his Deep THREAT is the main cause of concern for his loss.

The guy doesn't get many open looks, opposing defenses know he is a lights out shooter, so the shadow him and fight thru 3 picks or switch on him. Because team's know if you give him an open shot, he'll hit 75% of them.

he's not Athletic though, so there is a trade off. Woodall is the better ball handler and passer, but he is a bit of a liability on defense.

all in all, I know that Gibbs opens things up for the slashers like Brown and Wannamaker to get deep into the lane. and for guys on the blocks to score 1 on 1 with very little help defense.

as far as Taylor. i'm almost certain he won't play. but in big east play, he isn't that big of a factor yet. his season avgs are pumped up due to playing inferior non conf foes.

all in all, Pitt has a very Deep and Athletic bench. They just aren't as well coached in the "Pitt" way of playing ball. I think Gibbs is a big loss, Taylor's loss depends on how the refs are blowing their whistles. Most Pitt big men get called for more than there share of fouls. Taylor comes off the bench an hacks away indiscriminately, and plays energetic because he knows he only has 10-15 mins to play.

without him, the big men bench is a bit short. Literally and figuratively

Thanks Archie for your perspective and can see where you coming from in Gibbs opening up easy shots for other guys. Now these guys will be guarded.

I mean I was leaning towards WV even before Gibbs but little spooked by line not going up more. I guess the uncertainty of Mitchell playing good or bad has people thinking what team will showed up for WV

Frosh. JJ Moore should see alot of mins tonight. and that guy is an NBA talent, but WAY WAY unpolished. the guy is a black hole, pass him the ball and he is 80% certain to take a shot.
But he can shoot the 3 and slash to the hole. So to me he is the big intangible. I love the way he crashes the boards, especially offensively though.

when it all comes down to it though. I really think Huggy Bear needs to win this game.

it will be entertaining. one way or another
