Is Letang really that good?

The Penguins placed four players among the six named to the All-Star Game. Balloting ended at midnight.

Center Sidney Crosby led everyone with 633,509 votes. Kris Letang, a write-in candidate, was first among defensemen with 477,960 votes. Marc-Andre Fleury was first among goaltenders with 426,305 votes. Evgeni Malkin finished third among forwards with 376,878 votes.

Chicago forward Jonathan Toews (407,676) and defenseman Duncan Keith (382,160) rounded out three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender.

Those six players are guaranteed a spot in the All-Star Game Jan. 30 at Carolina. Once the pool of players is completed by the NHL, the players will choose two captains, who will pick sides in the style of a fantasy draft. The league is not pitting players from opposing conferences this season.

I was just thinking a few days ago to have an All Star Game done this way (captains and choosing teams).

Now I see they beat me to it.

Sounds like Penguins fans did some serious ballot-stuffing.

They claim 14.3 million votes, but that can't be right. Maybe if you add each vote to one another (like if someone voted for six players, that counts as six votes).

I kind of doubt that the high total was under a million if 14.3 million ballots were submitted.

Letang is not that good. I must say, I'm certainly baffled by this one. Sounds to me like some serious ballot stuffing for sure. There's probably 20 D in the east who are 10 times better than Letang. Off the top of my head and in no particular order, there are:
Kaberle
Phaneuf
Phillips
Chara
Myers
Markov (injured)
Karlsson
Gonchar
Pronger
Staal
McCabe
Byfuglien
Enstrom
Pitkanen
Clarke
Hedman
Green
Carlson
