I don't get what's dumb. It looks like a very conventional sports story to me. One of our top ladies teams was disappointed in their recent results so they got a new coach.

I am never sure how much of a difference the coach makes in curling but all the top teams have them and Earle Morris seems like a completely respectable choice.

Hopefully Jones can get back to winning gold at the worlds in the near future.

Hurry hard!

Mudder,

What is dumb is the fact that curlers need a coach. What for? A coach makes no difference when it comes to curling. I honestly can't believe that curlers have coaches. My mind is spinning from trying to find a legit reason why a curler would need a coach.

Do dart players have or need a coach? Is dart playing a sport?

I concur, make it blue Rogatien.

I suppose curlers need a coach for the same reason anyone needs a coach. An additional experienced voice to discuss tactics. Psychological issues/motivation. Keeping an eye on mechanics issues. Coach could do some scouting.

I don't know. All the top teams have one so I figger it must do something for them.

I still find it hard to believe that curlers have a coach. It's shuffleboard on ice for frig sakes.

Have you ever been around a couple people playing darts...he'll even they need a coach to win without getting down each other's throats. I am guess a coach is more there to manage personalities than anything.

If you don't like curling you don't like curling and that's fine. But the reality is, there is a lot to it. Complex tactics, strength and conditioning, ability to handle extreme pressure. There is the art of reading ice.

Most guys hacking around at a club level wouldn't think about having a coach any more than I need a coach to go ride my bicycle. But when you start thinking in terms of the Olympics, that's a different ballgame.

Plus there are often large sums of money at stake for the top curling teams. You want every edge.
