Dustin Penner got a 4 mil per offer sheet, and he wasn't/isn't nearly as good as Ryan.

Look at Vanek and his 7 mil/per contract.

Bobby Ryan is going to be a star in this league for a while. Plenty of teams would love to build their team around him and would be happy to cough up $6mil/per to do so.

Considering this free agent class is fairly weak, a team that needs scoring help will overpay for Ryan. He may be WORTH 4-4.5 mil, but his worth will be dictated by the market, and he WILL get more than 5 if he doesn't work something out with the Ducks.

Exactly. And since Ryan is an RFA, someone will pay extra for his services, I think.

I still don't think it means he wants out. Just means he wants to get paid what he feel he deserves. I always greatly appreciate when players sign for hometown discounts, but I can appreciate a guy wanting to get paid well.
