Monday's game between the New Jersey Nets and Miami Heat wasn't particularly memorable as the Nets lost their 14th straight home game and 8th overall game as Miami took the fixture 99-89. The most entertaining moment happened in the break at the end of the third quarter when the Nets CEO Brett Yormark noticed a fan in the second row with a paper bag over his head and he didn't take too kindly to it. He asked the fan why he was wearing the bag, which if Yormark had been paying attention has been a regular occurrence this season, and all it took from the fan was a sarcastic "Because the Nets are so good to make him snap.
That loss put the Nets at 7-63 for the season and in severe danger of beating the Philadelphia 76ers 1972/3 record of having the worst season in the NBA with a record of 9-73. Although Yormark showed more passion for the franchise in those few minutes than the team have all season, he should be personally thanking any fans who still turn up so see the team that already broke a NBA record after starting the season 0-18. Promotion after promotion this season, including offering free tax returns and even player appearances at birthday parties, has failed to bring the fans through the door. It will be interesting to see how many fans turn on Wednesday complete with paper bags for their next home game against the Sacramento Kings.
