The decision is made. I'm gonna move. This is the thread about it.

Initial thoughts after an initial browse:

1) My rent - meaning the rent that I'm paying RIGHT NOW - in this place I have lived for 15+ years - seems like it's pretty damn good. I don't know why that would be. It's a great building pretty close to the lake - I'd think there might be a bit of a premium - like Jenny's place has a significant premium (although it is right overlooking where the Credit River comes out on the lake whereas my place is a quarter mile from the water.)

Whatever. Point being - everywhere I look at in Milton - which, as far as I know, is just a characterless expanse - costs more than I pay. $150/month at least. 2-3 hundred in a lot of cases.

2) I have no idea what my square footage is.

The banana hanger came with the apartment.

So I get this new job with all this fancy new money. But then I will have to move and pay that much more rent. Couple hundred? And then because of the increased calorie burnage on the job, I am eating $100+ more per month in groceries.

:mudcat:

The amount of extra money being earned is still way more than that - plus there will be less gas and presumably less general car maintenance - so I am clearly way better off in the big picture - but still, I am angry in principle.

I see basement apartments. Bigger square footage on those. Decent prices.

I had a basement apartment once in my life - and it happened to be a great experience. But hearing people talk, I can't help but wonder if that was the exception to the rule.

Don't know, don't know.
